The Inaugural Sovereign Asian Art Prize Singapore 2010

The Sovereign Asia Art Prize (SAAP) is now entering into it's 8th year. A well established and well known art event organized by the Sovereign Art Foundation to showcase works by established and upcoming artists in the region.

Every year, artists around the world are nominated to participate in this prestigious event and world class judges select 30 finalists and additional 20 entries for Singapore’s exhibition.

This year, SAAP received more than 600 submissions from more than 200 nominated artists in Singapore. However, only 20 works made it to the Singapore exhibition on top of the 30 finalists. And 5 Singaporean artists made it as the finalists for the SAAP which will tour Hong Kong and Beijing. The grand prize for this year’s winner is a whopping US$25,000.

Some of the well know Singaporean artists are Amanda Heng, Francis Ng, Max Kong and John Clang. While emerging artists include Ruben Pang and Ong Hui Har.

The works are currently on display at [email protected] from the 22nd to the 29th October. There after, the works will be auction off at the Gala Dinner and Charity Aucton, held at The Sky on 57, at the Marina Bay Sands on the 15th December.

50% of the benefits from the auction will go the Art Outreach, an art educational non-profit organization in Singapore. Setup in 2003, the organization received its charity status in October 2004. Art Outreach have been providing art educational programs to students in Singapore who are their main receipents. Their aim in their program is to encourage self-expressions, builds confidences in exploring art and creativity, introduce new ideas, provides valuable historical and cultural context, inspires creativity, provides an emotional outlet and broaden the student’s worldview.
