Light Studies Workshop (by David H. Wells)

31 Jan to 10 Feb 2017 (4 sessions). Venue: Objectifs

Light, shadow, night and twilight are the tools David H. Wells uses as he makes his award winning “Light Studies”, photo-essays exploring the light and atmosphere of different places. Train stations, shrines, city centers, buildings and the like are just a few potential subjects for such “Light Studies.” Spend time with this master of light and shadow, who will help you understand how to make your own “Light Studies.” Wells will share specific techniques (and particular images that highlight those techniques) used to create his images.

We begin the workshop with extensive visuals to introduce this important and useful approach to using available light. Participants will gain a better understanding of available light, how it is shaped by the time of day, seasons, the photographer’s positioning and more.

In our two guided shoots, we will be shooting at the best time of day for different qualities of light, including during the “golden hours” at sunrise and sunset of dusk. You will gain a better sensitivity to light and how you can incorporate it together with other compositional tools. Participants will also receive valuable on-location feedback from David on how to improve their images, and uncover unique angles and moments to capture.

Established in 2003, Objectifs is a non-profit visual arts centre dedicated to photography and film in Singapore.
