M1 Singapore Fringe Festival 2013: ‘赤子 Haru & Mina’ - Hideaki Hamada

The M1 Singapore Fringe Festival, an annual event of performing and visual arts, staged by international and local artists at different performing arts and art venues islandwide, is back for its fourth year at ION Art. The 2013 Festival is themed ‘Art & Entertainment’.

At ION Art is a 2013 Festival Highlight, ‘赤子 Haru & Mina’, a touching and captivating photographic series of Osaka-based photographer Hideaki Hamada of his two young children as they explore the world around them. Through the dispassionate gaze of his camera lens, Hamada takes us on a journey through the wondrous process of growing up – of curiosity, make-believe, innocence, and comradeship, but also of moments of indecision, pensiveness and quiet understanding.

The entertaining and often humorous adventures of Haru and Mina become a reflection of their father’s own adventures as a child, and also harkens back to simpler, purer times that we have all experienced in our lives.

Born in Hyogo, Japan in 1977, Hamada is a photographer, web designer and musician currently based in Osaka. His series of photographs of his children ‘赤子 Haru & Mina’ has been exhibited in Taiwan and was also nominated for the Fubiz Awards in 2012.
