On 26 November 2016, as part of MINT Museum of Toys’ monthly late-night event, Guerrilla, the museum will be opening level 5 of the museum from 6:30pm onwards to showcase the featured exhibit of the month – the Mechanical Dalek.

This rare and popular collectable toy was produced in 1965 by the manufacturing company Codeg. Daleks, the mutant character from the popular British science fiction series, Dr Who, inspired the design of this toy.

The condition of this toy makes it particularly rare and special. Early Dalek toys are normally subject to damage such as rust and broken or missing arms. This particular piece on display, however, is in mint condition and retains much of its original bold blue colour.

Visitors will not only get the opportunity to learn more about the history of the toy and the character, Dalek, but they will also get to explore the Outerspace level and view the museum’s collection of vintage robots, TV and film toys and other space-related toys.

The evening will be accompanied by a ‘Spot the Dalek’ activity, for which visitors can stand to win MINT Shop vouchers for tin-toy items. Coveted items from the shop include the classic wind-up robot tin-toy named Astro Scout – perfect for collecting or as a vintage home décor item.

Guerrilla takes place on 26 November 2016 from 6:30pm – 9:30pm at MINT Museum of Toys. Admission is free.

About MINT Museum of Toys

MINT (Moment of Imagination and Nostalgia) Museum of Toys houses a world-class collection of vintage toys and collectable items in an international award-winning contemporary building on Seah Street. When it was founded in 2007, the museum was the first in the world known to be purpose-built for toys, and to date, remains to be the only one.

Since its inauguration, the museum has expanded its collection, amassing over 50,000 items, 8000 of which are on display in the museum. The toys and items hail from over 40 countries and range in date from the 1840s to 1970s. These are displayed across the rooftop, basement and 4 thematic levels of the museum: Outerspace, Characters, Childhood Favourites and Collectables.

The collection is made up of various key collections, including Batman, Dan Dare, Japanese character and space-related toys, and collectables. In addition to toys, the museum also houses a collection of confectionary vintage tin-cans, large-item objects, such as Mobo horses, as well as enamel advertising signs. Over the years, these have been incorporated into various activities and programmes run by the museum, serving as windows into the past as well as inspirations for the present.

Today, MINT Museum of Toys serves diverse and expanding audiences, including students, artists, tourists, and a growing audience of collectors.
