At Nine Years Theatre, we believe in regular and long-term training for actors. Hence, we devote ourselves to practising and sharing of the training methods and philosophy with the community through classes and open platform.

In 2017, we will be holding a 10-days class for both “Suzuki Method of Actor Training” (SMAT) and “Viewpoints”. While applicants are encouraged to apply for both classes together, they may, however, choose to apply for either SMAT or Viewpoints only. Classes will be taught by Nelson Chia and assisted by NYT ensemble.

In SMAT, participants will be taught the 6 basic disciplines. This is a class for beginners, no prior experience in the method is required. It is also suitable for actors who have experienced the method and are looking to refine their training in the basics.

Viewpoints is a method of performer training based on the works of Mary Overlie and Anne Bogart. It trains performers to work together by developing a common awareness of time and space, which can be broken down into elements such as shape, movement, architecture, kinesthetic response and duration, to name a few. This is a class for beginners, no prior experience in the method is required. Participants will be taught the fundamental elements of Viewpoints in this course. Also suitable for actors who have experienced the method and are looking to refine their understanding of the training.
