SEAN BAY Yuan Han has always been fascinated by Singapore politicians because he used to see how his own grandfather follow them them on TV and in the newspapers when he was growing up.14918954_10154623192943688_2704865443571198856_o
He paints portraits of politicians in a signature style − strong lines, bold colours − yet recognisably capturing his subject. Sean’s subjects include Singapore’s leaders such as the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew, the late President Mr S.R. Nathan, Opposition MP Chiam See Tong, as well as Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, among many others.

His landscapes – usually of the Singapore transport system as he was a great fan of Thomas The Tank Engine – are similar, with a bright, cheerful and unpretentious vibe. His debut exhibition marks his 21st year and will showcase artworks he has done over the past five years.

Called Sean The Art Beng Grows Up: My Country. My Leaders, My Dreams, the 4-day exhibition will run from 25 November to 28 November 2016 at 10 Square@Orchard Central. Says Sean: “My favourite portrait is that of Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong which I did this year to commemorate his 12th year as Singapore’s third Prime Minister. He took a selfie with me during SG50 celebrations and I like painting him because he looks handsome.”
