    After the slow-burn of buzz leading up to the opening of Gillman Barracks, it was finally time for art-goers to get drunk on art once again (after an already busy week of openings at Valentine Willie Fine Art, Ikkan Art International, and the ICA at Lasalle).

    Set against a tropical jungle backdrop, Gillman Barracks is a cosy enclave with buildings from the 30’s spruced up by Jurong Town Council (S$10 million can go quite a long way it seems). It definitely looks much better in the evening, a lovely setting for future art openings/cocktails/parties. (more…)

    City of Dreams, by young Singaporean artist, Joyce Lee Shu Jun

    At a former OCBC Bank premise which opened during the 1930s, The Vault occupies a double-storey shophouse in the hip Chinatown enclave. Inspired by its history and colourful surrounds, The Vault’s interior is an edgy mix of industrial copper and steel filled up with vibrant and dynamic content.

    A casual bistro downstairs and a high-ceiling lounge upstairs, The Vault also makes space for art and music to thrive. Currently showcasing works titled, City of Dreams, by young Singaporean artist, Joyce Lee Shu Jun, till end September.

    The Singapore Biennale Returns in 2013!

    It’s back! Singapore’s premier contemporary art exhibition, the Singapore Biennale, returns for its fourth edition in 2013. Titled “If The World Changed”, it will be held from 26 October 2013 to 16 February 2014.

    In the 21st century, the face of South East Asia has been rapidly evolving. As a region, we encompass a multitude of communities who inhabit disparate social realities. Globalisation has served to both push together and pull people apart. Against this backdrop of past and continuous change, artists have been reflecting, mediating, envisioning, and making propositions. “If The World Changed,” is an invitation to reconsider the world we live in, and the worlds we want to live in.
