Para Site is delighted to announce the appointment of Freya Chou as Curator of Education and Public Programmes. From 2004 to 2008, Chou coordinated exhibitions at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum, including the 5th and 6th Taipei Biennials. She was assistant curator of the 7th Taipei Biennale in 2010 and co-curator of the 10th Shanghai Biennale in 2014. Also in 2014, she founded YiBen Book, an independent publishing house committed to producing artists’ books. She contributes to periodicals including Artist Magazine (Taiwan), ARTCO Magazine (Taiwan), LEAP (China) and ArtReview Asia (China).

Chou’s appointment marks an important step in Para Site’s institutional development, which includes new educational programmes, supported by a consecutive Springboard Grant from the Home Affairs Bureau, Arts Capacity Development Funding Scheme of the Government of the Hong Kong S.A.R. These initiatives, aimed at diverse audiences and tailored to Hong Kong’s complex society, build on Para Site’s mission of understanding art as a critical component of society. With the launch of its new space, Para Site now boasts a dedicated room specifically for lectures, workshops, screenings, and other discursive events.

Para Site is Hong Kong’s leading contemporary art centre and one of the oldest and most active independent art institutions in Asia. It produces exhibitions, publications and discursive projects aimed at forging a critical understanding of local and international phenomena in art and society.
