Rarely opened to the public, the Tiong Bahru Air Raid shelter is a unique space that has been left virtually untouched since its construction which dates back as early as 1939, even used to shelter residents during the Japanese bombings of WWII. RAID will leverage on this through the site’s historical and architectural narrative, allowing the artist respond to the space through their works. With assistance from the Tanjong Pagar Town Council, RAID will be the first of its kind, and the first time the Tiong Bahru Air Raid Shelter has been this open to the public.
