Arts for All – connecting communities through engaging with the arts

Compared to nine years ago, attendance and participation in arts events has doubled over the years, according to the Singapore National Arts Council’s 2011 Population Survey on Arts and Culture. In addition, 77% of respondents were motivated to attend the arts for entertainment and relaxation, while 55% attended arts events as a way of spending time with friends and family.

Apart from these positive experiences people associate with the arts, the arts also provides a myriad of other personal benefits:

    • Helps in problem-solving and decision-making by allowing participants to learn interpersonal as well as technical skills that are important for mobilizing groups (such as when organizing

  • Digital Mapping in Punggol

Singapore’s newest heartland, Punggol Waterway, was the host venue for the closing event of PAssionArts Month. PoPArtlicious @Punggol Waterway held an amazing digital art mapping on 3 HDB (Housing Development Buildings) on the night of the ceremony on the 8th April.

Residents of Punggol 21 and visitors were treated to a mind-blowing digital art on three new HDB blocks. The 2 minutes presentation gave heartland residents an insights to animated art with modern technology.

The mapping was created by 2 resident of Punggol , Brandon Tay & Flex!

    Young Blood: NAFA’s latest graduates

Graduation shows are usually not the most ideal settings for viewing an artist’s work. They are (mostly) decontextualized collections of limited samplings, constrained by space, grouped by themes in the loosest sense. But I ended up visiting the NAFA galleries for repeated viewings of the school’s Diploma and Bachelors graduation shows. So what can we expect from NAFA’s freshly minted artists?

Two highlights for me among their Diploma graduates were works by Kim So Young and Nhawfal Juma’at, the former for her technique, the latter for his conceptual rigour.
