A rare chance to experience a trio of voice, string and piano will take you on a musical journey on November 28th at the Esplanade’s Recital Studio. Violinist Siew Yi Li and pianist Beatrice Lin will create, together with soprano Sérine de Labaume, a delightful evening full of inviting and eclectic music not so often heard in Singapore.

From intense and erudite compositions of Camille Saint-Saëns and Frank Bridge to more popular approaches by Luigi Denza and Eldo di Lazzaro, the programme presents a wide range of music from the late 19th century to the early 20th century. Approachable and melodious music takes a big part of the evening’s programme: Serenades and Romances by Diémer, Braga, Anton, Tosti… to name a few. After the intermission, Latin/Spanish flair in full swing, the audience will be treated to Berlioz’s Bolero, Viardot’s Habanera and Piazzolla’s Tango among others. The programme doesn’t consist of only less-known pieces. Some very popular pieces such as Sarasate’s ‘Romanza Andalusa’ and Gardel’s ‘Por una Cabeza’ will also be heard.

Many of the pieces were written by the composers for this not-as-often-interpreted combination of string, voice and piano. A few were arranged by the musicians for this concert, and some remain duo as intended. Some melancholic, some exhilarating, and some, simply charming, this romantic and emotion (and surprise)-full programme promises an enchanting evening for music aficionados as well as first-time concertgoers.
